Beach Cleaning.
Recently, we have noticed a sharp increase in debris along the Cannon Rocks beachfront, making regular cleanups more important than ever. A huge thank you to everyone who joined our impromptu beach clean-up in July. Your hard work in clearing away litter and debris is crucial in keeping our local environment beautiful and healthy. Together, we can continue to make a real difference in preserving our beaches for future generations.
Building on that success, the Cannon Rocks Ratepayers Association (CRRA), led by Ron Mackenzie, organised a community cleanup on Saturday, 10th August, and we are excited to share some highlights with you — check out the photos below.
Despite the less-than-perfect weather, it was a brilliant opportunity for the community to come together for a good cause. A special shoutout to Sanette & Johan, owners of Roes, for opening early for the rugby and providing breakfast buns and coffee—they were absolutely delicious.
And let us not forget Duppie (Philip du Plessis), who, with his team, had already worked their magic by Saturday afternoon, clearing all the rubbish along the beach’s high tide mark. Duppie and his crew were unstoppable, ensuring our shoreline was spotless—what a sterling job.
The Cannon Rocks Rate Payers Association (CRRA) is now making this a regular event, with beach cleanups scheduled for the first Saturday of every month. Residents are encouraged to place their rubbish above the high-water mark, where our determined CRRA volunteers will collect it. This ongoing effort is all about keeping our beaches clean and litter-free, creating a more pleasant environment for everyone. We hope to inspire other towns to do the same. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ron Mackenzie on 071 350 3003, or reach out to a member of the CRRA Team, who will be happy to assist.
Registration as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP)
The Cannon Rocks Ratepayers Association (CRRA) has registered as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) for the Basic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Management Programme in Alexandria. This registration allows the CRRA to actively participate in environmental assessments and management programmes, ensuring that the community’s interests and concerns are represented in local environmental decisions. The primary reason for registration is to ensure that the impact of additional water demand on the water supply capacity from Cannon Rocks is properly addressed.
Recycling
Residents are requested to note that the recycling collection vehicle will be parked at the Community Hall on Mondays from 08h30 to 11h00. The owner of the recycling company expressed his appreciation and thanked the residents of Cannon Rocks for their support of the recycling programme.
