We have a bumper Newsletter for you this month
Bumper Edition Alert
We have got a jam-packed newsletter for you this month, filled with updates and insights From tackling invasive plants (yes, we are looking at you, Lantana) to exciting community initiatives, there is plenty to catch up on.
Lantana: The Pretty Pest You Do Not Want in Your Garden
At first glance, Lantana might seem like a harmless, colourful shrub, but do not be fooled—this plant is an invasive alien species and a menace to our local environment. If left unchecked, it spreads like wildfire, choking out native plants and creating a tangled mess that is a nightmare to remove.
So, if you spot this sneaky invader in your garden, take action.
Option 1: Manual Removal (For the Brave)
- Pull it out by the roots – If it is small enough, a good yank will do the trick, but be sure to get every bit of the root
- Chop and dig – For larger bushes, cut them down to ground level and remove the roots to prevent regrowth.
Option 2: Chemical Control (For the Less Hands-On Approach)
- Spray it –Glyphosate-based herbicides (e.g., Roundup) – Apply and spray when the plant is actively growing.
- Cut and treat – Chop the stems and apply Roundup directly to the fresh cuts.
- Basal bark treatment – A more targeted approach, applying Roundup to the lower stems.
Remember: After removal, plant something beautiful and indigenous in its place.
Booking our Community Hall
Need a venue for an event or a regular gathering? The Community Hall is up for grabs—whether it is a one-time bash or a monthly rental.
For bookings, have a chat with the lovely Tracey and Barbara. But if Barbara does not answer, don’t worry—she is not ignoring you. She just has shockingly bad phone reception where she lives. Best bet………reach out to Tracey and between the two of them, they will make sure you are sorted.
Tracey – 084 654 0654 or Barbara – 084 845 6015.
Got any spare stepping stones lying around
Have you noticed? We are in the middle of sprucing up the entrance to our Community Hall with a fresh coat of paint and new fascia boards. As part of this, we are revamping the garden. We would love to add a bit of charm and practicality to the community space and need your help. We are on the hunt for around 30 stepping stones (approximately 30 x 30 cm). If you have any lying around that you would be happy to spare, or if you know where we can source some, we would greatly appreciate it.
If you would like to make a donation towards purchasing the stones, we would be so grateful for your support. Every little bit helps to create a better space for everyone to enjoy.
For offers, suggestions, or donations, please give Adele a shout. She would love to hear from you!

Beach Access via Sea Road
Following a CRRA letter in February, a municipal team inspected Sea Road 1 to assess a request from Mrs L. Watkins for a timber stairway over the dune. During the visit, it was confirmed that Sea Road has been a designated pedestrian beach access point since 1990. Now, we wait for Ndlambe Municipality’s feedback before taking the next step—watch this space.
Security Cameras – Who Pays?
A surprise invoice was received from the Treasurer of the Boknes/Cannon Rocks Buurtwag, for two new security cameras at the Cannon Rocks entrance. After some digging, it turns out this was a private initiative—not a CRRA expense. So, if you are planning to install cameras in public spaces, remember to get the right approvals, sort out power supply, and cover all costs yourself. CRRA is happy to advise, but the bills stay with the initiators.
CRRA Annual Fee – R150,00 per Household
Just a little nudge (with a friendly smile ) to avoid any confusion—the CRRA annual fee is R150,00, not R100,00.
Every cent makes a difference in keeping our little village going, so let us make sure the full amount lands in the right place.
