End of season a little unpredictable

The Wind throughout March in Cannon Rocks has been somewhat unpredictable… The summer Easterlies kind of disappeared and very cold water has been present since the beginning of January causing some havoc with the winds I believe.

However we still managed to get some good days.

I was hoping to do a mega downwind but the easterly winds have been unusual. Windguru often miss predicting. So for now it is shelved.

Here are some of the pics of some freestyle sessions…

We also had some good wave sessions with some ground swell coming in.

And when the wind doesn’t blow… it’s wave riding time.

So it’s always an ocean moment!

Till next blog

Cannon Rocks Kiteboarding Classic Rocked!

print

A 1st time event, on the east coast of south Africa… It was a long shot, then the forecast played against us… but this is Cannon Rocks. And Cannon Rocks can deliver magic conditions…

And Cannon Rocks delivered its magic. With the 4 top South African riders visiting the spot, all we needed was the wind. Most of them arrived on Friday and were greeted by a 30 – 35 knots East wind with awesome water conditions. So the training session got underway. I also got in the water as I knew that as the contest director, I wasn’t gonna get a chance to ride over the Week End.

The film crew was also there and began shooting in these awesome conditions. I suspect that some of that footage is gonna be pretty spectacular. The film crew were shooting for a supersport 26 minute special which will be aired in February.

All the riders gathered at the Cannon Rocks Holiday resort and caught up to take in the incredible conditions.

Saturday’s forecast looked bad, but Cannon Rocks delivered. By 11 am we were able to run the Racing event despite the mist, and then  the men’s pro Freestyle event in a nice 20 to 25 knots westerly wind. According to some of the competitors the best conditions ever experienced at an event in South Africa. The Final was word class with competitors throwing serious moves down.

The result were as follows

getting ready

CRcomposterwebAs the last bits of preparation get put in place for my first home competition, I do manage to take a few hours and enjoy being back home. I’d almost forgotten how good this place can be.

Wind or no wind, no place I’d rather be right now. Beautiful summer days filled with beach and good times…

And then the wind blows and it gets better (Even if all the holiday makers moan).

Organizing the comp has kept me more than busy. I have new respect for anyone who ventures into that kind of event…

Anyway, so far we look set for a real exciting comp with lots of fun activities planned around. If you happen to be in South Africa, you should swing this way.

In the meantime we’ve had some good waves…

Here is a few stills lifted from video footage taken during an evening session.
